A Little About Me

I grew up in Virginia and spent much of my childhood wandering the creeks and rivers of the
Chesapeake Bay.

I attended the College of William and Mary for my undergraduate work and majored in a wide
range of subjects including Philosophy, Studio Art, Art History, English, and Religion.

I came to Duke for graduate work in 1973 and spent my time in the Marriage and Family Therapy
training program that once was offered by the Divinity School. I finished that in 1978 and began
my private practice.

I enjoyed a 20 year, powerful, intense, and often very happy marriage and learned much about
myself and relationships from it. One of my finest achievements  and greatest opportunities for
learning comes from my parenting of my two kids- my son, who is 24 and my daughter, who is 14.
Raising them has taught me as much as anything else I have done.

Throughout my career, I have sought training opportunities with a wide range of clinicians, from
Virginia Satir to Stephen Gilligan, from Dave Schnarch to Michael Yapko and many others.

I have done numerous workshops with Marion Woodman (noted Jungian analyst) and Robert Bly
(poet and amazing man) on a variety of topics dealing with Fairy Tales and their relevance to life
and living. I have worked with Coleman Barks along the way and benefited from his astounding
grasp of Rumi and other Sufi poets.

I hold licensure as a Professional Counselor (LPC) and as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
in North Carolina. I am a member of AASECT, AAMFT, AAPC, NCSCH, and other professional
organizations.

I have a wide range of specialties and interests-from working with survivors of  trauma to anxiety
relief, from marital and relational conflict to individual insight work, from sexual issues to issues
about growth and change that are causing distress and tension. I enjoy the work I do and hear from
my clients that they find that the insights they gain are beneficial in their lives.

I invite you to consider getting in touch with me to see if our work together might be useful to you
in your growth and in your life.
A note about fees and payment: Insurance Providers will often reimburse a portion of the
fees for sessions. My fee is $110 an hour. I accept all major credit cards, checks, or cash. In
some circumstances, if there is no insurance coverage and financial need requires it, I can
work on a sliding scale with my fee ranging between $60 and $110.
